Best Fishing between Eden & Wonboyn

by Paul Lyons
(Bodalla Fishing & Maritime Museum)

Question:

Hey me and a few mates are planning a trip to go to between wonboyn and eden nsw. We are from Victoria. Can anyone please provide any info on what to target in October. Also any ideas on where to stay or camp.

There will be no more then six of us wanting to go on a fishing trip.
We are all Landbase fishoes. We may hire a boat if we are able to.
We are coming 10/10/11 till 17/10/11. We are after on info on best places to stay or camp as we are leaving both options open. Also info on what varieties of fish we should be targeting that time of year.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Adam

ANSWER from Paul at Bodalla:
Hi Adam,
I did much the same trip for 30 years myself. I can add some quick notes that you can forward on, (if you wish)
To get the most out of the trip, I'd spend some time at Wonboyn lake, & then some in Eden itself, that way you can cover twice as many types of fishing & fish.
"Wonboyn Cabins & Caravan Park" phone- 02 64969131 is a great starting point & they used to hire tinnies as well. The lake is famous for large flathead, but bream, trevally, mulloway, flounder, large mullet, & bass up higher, are all options. By driving down a track, the beach can be reached, where big salmon & tailor can be caught. Sharks can also be caught here, too.
"Eden tourist Park" phone 02 64961139 is on Aslings Beach in Eden, so it's a 100 mt walk to salmon, tailor, & the odd shark & mulloway. Each end of the beach has rock fishing available, where things like luderick, bonito/striped tuna, slimey mackerel, yellowtail scad, pike, etc, etc,can all be fluked on different occasions.
There are numerous caravan parks in between, but you will come across more fish by fishing both Eden & Wonboyn.
Hopefully, Harbourside Tackle Shop, 253 Imlay street, Eden 02 64961778 might be able to help sort out any other enquiries. Also, please bare in mind there are far more types of fish to be caught, these are just some of the ones that i can remember that we fluked over the years.
Cheers for now, Paul - Bodalla fishing Museum.
