Broulee Sand Modelling

Broulee Community Association’s annual sand dune castle event just keeps getting bigger & better according to BCA’s Marie Zuvich. “We had over 350 participants last year, nearly double the previous year, and more than a thousand spectators. The creative juices were just flowing all over the beach. Only once in a blue moon do you get a sandcastle competition like this”.
“Yes, we were lucky to have a blue moon for the event” agreed BCA’s resident astrologer and sandcastle aficionado Richard Fisher. “It’s not often that you see mermaids, dragons, crocodiles, turtles, octopuses and sharks mixing it with the locals and tourists. And with the help of the moon, the consistency and adhesion of the sand simply brought out the best from all our sculptors.”
“The community support was terrific,’ said Marie Zuvich. “We had prizes from thirteen local businesses and four artists gave up their afternoon to be judges. There was something of an international flavor with Danish and Finnish teams and a French judge. “
In the modeling section, crowd sentiment was behind the four beach bums fashioned by the “Four moons” of Canberra but first place went to a fine, large sandy dog by the “Tinkerbell team” from Canberra. An octopus by the “Martins” grabbed the junior section while the “Lili Gremlins” won the traditional sandcastle title. Entry fees from the competition will help fund additions to the shared bicycle ways at Broulee.
