We'll have a look at what the Narooma rock shelf has to offer on Saturday, 4 December, meeting at 'Australia Rock' on the southern side of the bar at 1.30pm (low tide will be at 2.39pm).
Friends and family members are welcome - we'll invite those who are not current NCMG members to join on the spot. Make sure you have proper footwear (reef shoes, old thongs or similar - definitely not thongs), sunscreen, camera and a plastic container to hold any discoveries while you have a closer look. Access is not great, so a pole might be handy to keep your balance.
There is not a lot of parking right at Australia Rock, but it is possible to park nearby.
If anyone knows anything about geology that would help, as the rocks seem rather different to those found elsewhere in the area. Also, the location and the timing will be of interest to anyone interested in shorebirds, as there are seasonal visitors to the inlet who can be readily seen nearby.
Please let me know if you intend to come and how many in your group - by email or phone 4473 5304. Contact me if you have any queries. At this stage I'm not sure about the weather - the long range forecast says showers, but that could change before Saturday. I will keep an eye on the weather and let people know if we need to make any changes.
Also there is the possibility of meeting a little earlier for a picnic lunch, either at the park near the town wharf on Bluewater Drive or at the park just on the southern side of the bridge. When you let me know if you are coming tell me also if you are interested in doing this.
Finally, I just wanted to draw members' attention to a David Attenborough documentary called 'Death of the Oceans?' on SBS1 on Tuesday evening at 7.30. I don't know anything about it yet, but Attenborough's stuff is usually good. We certainly can't afford to be complacent about the health of the oceans.
Regards
Bill
