The NSW Tourism award finalists have just been announced and here are the successful South Coast businesses that made the next step.

Now in its 23rd year, and proudly supported by Destination NSW, the NSW Tourism Awards honour those in the tourism industry, a sector that accounts for one in every 21 jobs in NSW and contributes $30.5 billion per year to the NSW economy.

Andrew Jefferies, General Manager, Tourism Industry Council NSW, explained that New South Wales has had outstanding success at the QANTAS Australian Tourism Awards for many years and that the results were reflective of the excellence and high standard of tourism products on offer across the state.

“I’m confident that the high standard of this year’s finalists will also be reflected at a National level. These awards really highlight the best of what our state’s tourism industry has to offer – its diversity, product range, competition and refined development. It’s exciting to see the progress and improvement right across all categories and products,” said Mr Jefferies.

The judging process was conducted by a panel of highly experienced tourism professionals and checked and verified by Ernst and Young auditors.

This year the judging team was broadened to cater to the increased number and diversity of the entrants. Reg Edwards, Chair of the Judges, noted having a larger judging team also meant greater access to a variety of experiences.

“Many of the categories showed increased nominations this year. These demonstrated great diversity and a good range of product development that certainly made for a much tougher competition. The end results had some very close calls!

“What we were shown over the judging period was really refreshing, and certainly showcases just how resilient the industry is in tough times. We look forward to celebrating with the finalists and winners at the gala ceremony in November,” said Mr Edwards.

The NSW Tourism Awards dinner and ceremony will be held on Thursday 22 November 2012 at Le Montage, Lilyfield.
