Snorkeling 'Spud' Point, South Coast NSW

Spud Point sponge garden
One of our local expert divers, Bill Barker, has agreed to conduct another snorkeling outing on Sat, 27 November.
Click here for more details of previous outings. We've already had a number of indications from people wanting to take part but would appreciate it if others wanting to come along could let us know by email. When doing so, please send your mobile number in case of last-minute changes.
Bill says, "At this stage, I'm still hoping we'll be able to do Potato Point, as it can be quite an exciting place to observe marine life. It will depend on the weather on the day - my advance weather forecast doesn't extend to the 27th but through to Thursday it looks like it will be warm and sunny but a bit windy. If Spud Point is not suitable, I will look at somewhere sheltered from the northerlies, probably Broulee.
If we are able to do Potato Point, I propose that we meet at the Potato Point boat ramp at 9.30 am. For those interested there are also things happening at Bodalla that day to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Bodalla village, so it could become a day out.
The water is still quite cool (around 16 degrees). I recommend that everyone coming is properly equipped with a full length, properly fitting wetsuit. You will also obviously need mask, snorkel and fins. Dave Bain, a NCMG member, who runs Total Eco Adventures at Broulee has a good deal for NCMG members on hire of gear. You can contact him on 4471 6969. As mentioned on previous occasions, you can also hire gear from Indepth Scuba at Batemans Bay (4472 9930) or The Ocean Hut Narooma (4476 2278).
Friends who are not at present NCMG members are also welcome, but we will ask them to join (and pay the $10) on the spot so that they are covered by our insurance.
Safety is a prime consideration in all our outings, and particularly when we are in the water. A safety briefing will be provided along with other measures. At the same time, members have to take responsibility for themselves on these outings and participate at their own risk".
If you are interested, please get back to Bill as soon as possible by email. If you have any queries, his landline is 4473 5304 and mobile 0417 237 639.
