Snorkeling the South Coast

by Bill Barker

Sponge garden at Potato Point

Dear NCMG members,

I am planning a NCMG snorkeling outing this coming Saturday, 11 February. At this stage, I am looking at going to Guerilla Bay, which is reasonably protected no matter what the weather and which offers several interesting snorkeling options. In addition, I hear that the marine life there is picking up as a result of the protection offered by the sanctuary zone that covers it. Those interested please send me an email, including your mobile number in case of last minute changes. I'm not sure of the general weather for the day, but will send out another email on Friday to those who have expressed an interest, by which time the forecast should be more definite.

We will meet at 10.00am in the car park at the northern end of the bay. Parking is a bit limited there but it is possible to park on the road if necessary. There are no toilet or change facilities there, but there is a nice little picnic area if anyone wants to bring some refreshment; otherwise we could adjourn to the Muffin Shop at Mossy Point.

As usual, snorkelers need to have all their own gear. The water temperature is a bit higher than it has been but is still fairly cool so a good wetsuit is desirable. Anyone with gear or other queries should contact me on 4473 5304. I will be happy to provide some snorkeling tips. I will also bring some marine life ID resources to help people know what it is they are seeing.

I look forward to hearing from interested snorkelers.

Regards,
Bill
