Surfing Kayaks and Vacation Packages ...

Why is this page entitled Surfing Kayaks ?
Because many of our international visitors recognize the surfing kayaks term.
Naturally, you don't necessarily have to tackle the surf if it's your first time in a kayak. Actually, if conditions aren't suitable even the seasoned kayaker will appreciate the lake and river options also available as part of your vacation packages.

In fact, many Kayak guides now offer glass bottomed kayaks so you can appreciate the beauty of the marine life.
I asked one of our local guides for a brief background on [sea, surfing, lake and river] kayaking options,  and he gave me the following summary:

Why Sea Kayaking ?

"They call this place the Eurobodalla, 'the land of many waters', a little bit of local knowledge, or a quick glimpse at a South Coast map, confirms.

Gentle mountain creeks flow east from the great dividing range into rainforest filled gorges gathering momentum and volume.
The waters slowly yield as the mountains give way and the freshwaters are met with the brackish tidal flows of coastal river and lake systems.
Finally these waters make their way into our clear, clean, blue Pacific Ocean.

Because of this geography, the South Coast offers suitable paddling waters for various craft.
Just where you seek your recreation is up to how adventurous your soul is.
From rowing a dingy, to J-stroking a canoe, enjoying tidal floats on a "sit on top" kayak, racing your K1 or exploring ocean islands from a sea [or surfing] kayak. There are few activities that give the sense of exploration, peace and enjoyment.

The environments are diverse from pockets of rainforest to mangrove systems, tidal sand flats, kelp covered reefs protected by ocean cliffs, islands that provide nesting sites for sea birds.
The best thing is, you can't walk or drive to many of the best spots. Yet they are usually accessible from a kayak.

I never grow tired of paddling for work, past the same headlands, sometimes four times a day in peak season. The possibility that the pair of sea eagles may be perched atop their favorite vantage point or the rays will be fossicking in the sand flats.
The swell may be thundering into the caves or the baitfish roused by a hungry school of salmon or tailor.

We love to share this with our clients, ... the simple pleasures of life, floating in nature.

It would be unrealistic to think that I've paddled every waterway up and down the South Coast, there are too many secret backwaters, inlets and islands to discover in a lifetime. I do still get excited about seeing a new stretch of water, once your paddling in it, you find they surprise and even reincarnate the soul".
