(Cafe restaurant and gallery near Mossy Point, South Coast)
the Old Mossy Point shop, more commonly known as 'The Muffin Shop' serves terrific 'barista' made coffee blended by Vittorio, gourmet sandwiches and savoury muffins.
Set in a fairly quiet street in the village of Mossy Point, this genuine heritage weatherboard building offers al fresco dining along the verandah or in the sunny grounds surrounding 'the boat' which provides an exciting climbing adventure for the kids.
A great range of breakfast options is available from sourdough, whole or turkish toast with jam, BLT eggs, poached, scrambled or benedict with your choice of sides. Kid's can have 'toad in the hole' and if you are feeling really healthy you can choose muesli with seasons fresh fruit and yoghurt.
To finish brekky you can have a 'home' made muffin with cream, butter or ice cream.
The 'home' made muffins, plus pies and sausage rolls are baked on the premises each day and you can choose from a range of taste sensations on turkish bread for lunch.
Sue reckons these are the best sausage rolls she's had, and she's had a few ;-), and my personal favorite is the Cha Cha with tomato, chicken, camembert smothered in a pesto sauce on Turkish.
The Thai chicken salad is also a popular choice, but does include peanuts and the vego mushroom burger is also in demand. Gourmet sandwiches with either cheese, ham or smoked salmon & salad are also available. To round off the menu you can choose a dessert of ice cream and your preferred topping or the daily range of deserts available in the display cabinet.
Muffins also offer GF alternatives, however it's advisable to give advance notice to the chef, so they can personally cater for your needs.
Open every day for breakfast and lunch from 8am-4pm (last food orders at 3pm).
You might also combine your visit with a browse through the art gallery around the back of the shop. The Mossy PointARTery, is a co-operative gallery featuring a select group of very talented local artists exhibiting an eclectic range of paintings, pastels, silversmith, photography, etchings, jewellery, sculptures and even recycled timber furniture. The gallery also showcases a range of quality giftware including silk scarves, candles, ceramics, handmade cards, soft toys.
