Saturday 8 October 11.30am—1.30pm

Cost $10 per adult $5 school age child
The Ulladulla coast has a wealth of fossils and, after our very enjoyable and interesting day at Durras, we are sure many members will want to join in this activity. See the website http://gondwanacoastfossilwalk.com.au for more details.

There will be a guided walk by a local geologist with a film and introduction beforehand.

NCMG member, Sylvia, says it’s great for kids (the date is in the NSW school holidays) because the fossil rocks are many metres deep and visitors can take home the small fossils they find. She recommends non-slip shoes and a trekking pole for those who think they may need it.
There is a cafe where the walk starts and ends.

Gondwana Coast and beyond
by: NCMG & U3A

Phil Smart retired from his position as Head of Resource Sciences at CIT in 1999 after a career in geology spanning more than 30 years. Since moving to Mollymook in 2001, Phil has immersed himself in volunteer lecturing/tutoring in geology with the Milton-Ulladulla Branch of U3A putting more than 160 members through his introductory 10-week "Fun with Geology" course.

In 2009 Phil set up the Gondwana Coast Fossil Walk on the rock platforms of Ulladulla Harbour. The Walk has been so successful that in 2010 he trained a group of interested local residents to be Volunteer Fossil Walk Guides.

Phil's audience was taken on an eventful 2-hour journey through the 500 million year geological history that's been revealed in the rocks. This geological story covered the rocks of the Eurobodalla and Shoalhaven coasts.

Perhaps the title of the talk needs some explanation. The ancient "Gondwana Coast" stretches only as far south as South Durras hence the need for the addition of "and beyond" to the title to cover the Eurobodalla region. This local geological story was enjoyed by all members and absolutely no scientific background is needed.
